| Video Discription | (1 Apr 2014) Mexico's president Enrique Pena Nieto honoured Nobel Prize poet and essayist Octavio Paz on Monday, the 100th anniversary of his birth, with the opening of an exhibition showcasing first editions of his books. Paz's widow, Marie-Jose Tramini, and Nobel Prize winners Jean-Marie Le Clezio and Wole Soyinka were present at the event at Mexico City's Jose Vasconcelos Library. Poet Eduardo Lizalde and actress Diana Bracho read some of Paz's poems. Pena Nieto was the only speaker at the ceremony, where he praised "the man, poet, intellectual, essayist, ambassador and exceptional Mexican" that was Octavio Paz. The exhibition showcases Paz's life through photographs and the first editions of some of his books. It shows 200 works, among them the first book Paz ever wrote; "Luna Silvestre." The political debates that swirled around Paz's views continue today, 16 years after his death at age 84. A socialist early in his life, he later criticised authoritarian practices and abuses of power. His daughter Helena Paz Garro died on the eve of the anniversary at age 74. The National Arts Council said only that her death on Sunday was from natural causes.
