The sources of infection can either be primary (endogenous) or secondary (exogenous). The decisive period is the four-hour interval before bacterial growth becomes evident to cause an infection. Also, the major and minor surgical site infections (SSIs) are described here. LOCALIZED INFECTION This section initially discussed the Southampton wound grading system and the ASEPSIS wound score. Furthermore, the abscess and hyperosmolar material in conjunction with its management has been shed light on. Amongst other medical conditions, cellulitis and lymphangitis are brought under discussion. SPECIFIC LOCAL WOUND INFECTIONS Gas gangrene is caused by Clostridium perfringens and its treatment includes large doses of intravenous penicillin and extensive tissue debridement.
