| Video Discription | If you are a resident of Hyderabad, I am sure you will have noticed vendors selling dry fruits on the road side. They are kept neatly stacked in a multi utility vehicle /vans and are neatly packed. Most of them are in 1 kg packets, cashew, walnuts/ badam, figs. I have been seeing this from past four months and was the last person to buy dry fruits from road side. I see these boys standing all day in spite of extreme heat and my conscience said, “Why not give it a try?” With reluctance, I approached this boy with a packet of cashews and walnuts /badam. There is a high risk on buying stuff this way, the reason being quality. I bought a packet of cashews and figs to try how good they are. The price he quoted for cashew was Rs.600/- for one kg and as I approached, he immediately reduced it to Rs.500/- And half kilogram of figs was 350/- Including figs, I paid Rs.850/- If you are good at bargaining, I am sure you can get it a much lesser price. I sanitized the packs and kept it aside for a few hours. While I opened the packet, I saw that the cashew kernels were pale yellow to brownish color. Now I was quite sure that they kernels need to be opened up and checked for any worms. I found worms in the cashew and removed those kernels off. I spent almost 2 hours to separate them and had to throw away close to 250 grams of cashews. The rest of the opened up cashew kernels have to be dried in shade for a day or two for consumption. The figs on the other hand were good and not as bad as the cashews, I could find out five to six of them which were not that good and trashed them.. I recommend you to be cautious in buying these cashews. If you buy them, make sure you split open every cashew kernel and remove the bad ones out.
