| Video Discription | South Indian Delight: Homemade Sambar Recipe Ingredients: Toor dal (pigeon peas) - 1/2 cup or 100g Mixed vegetables (such as carrots, Ladies Finger) - 1 cup Tamarind - small lemon-sized ball Sambar powder - 2 tablespoons Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon Curry leaves - a few Dry red chilies - 2 Onions - 1 medium, chopped Tomatoes - 1 medium, chopped Green chilies - 2, slit Garlic - 2 cloves, minced Oil - 2 tablespoons Salt to taste Fresh coriander leaves for garnish Instructions: Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker until soft and mushy. Soak tamarind in warm water, extract the pulp, and set aside. Add chopped onions, tomato, green chilies, Ginger and mixed vegetables, turmeric powder, and Salt into water. Mix well and boil for a few minutes. Add tamarind pulp and cooked toor dal. Mix everything well and bring it to a boil. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed. In a separate small pan, heat a little oil and fry cumin seeds, Fenugreek seeds, dry red chillies, little mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and coriander seeds. Prepare powder of it. then add this sambar powder to the boiling sambar. Let the sambar simmer on low heat until the vegetables are cooked through. In a separate small pan, heat a little oil and fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, dry red chilly, garlic and curry leaves. Add this tempering to the sambar for added flavor. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or idli/dosa. Enjoy your homemade sambar.
