Built in the form of an acropolis on top of a steep hill, Motovun has a name of Celtic origin - Montona - a city in a mountain. You can reach the top by the longest Istrian staircase – 1052 steps are waiting for you. Turbulent history, cultural deposits of various rulers, biological diversity and rich plant life are what make the Motovun area interesting. The city walls, mystical and inspired by the past, offer unique views of the valley of the Mirna River. The Motovun bell tower, 27 meters high, dominates the entire view of Motovun. Take a walk along the city walls and indulge in the views that unfold with it. The solid gate and high tower, built in the 16th century, under which the main city gate is located, will lead you to the oldest part of the city. In addition to its rich historical and cultural heritage, Motovun is widely known for the Motovun Film Festival. The multi-day film festival under the stars takes place at the end of July, and screenings are shown continuously from 10 am to 4 am. Evening screenings under the sky of warm summer nights.
