This small town (its population is just over 900 people), overlooking the valley of the Mirna River, is located at an altitude of 277 m above sea level. The first mention of the town under the name Montona (Celtic origin, meaning - Town on the hill) was in the document of the Rižana Assembly manuscript from 804 (Placitum of Riziano). After a hundred years of German rule and the rule of the Patriarch of Aquileia, Motovun fell under the rule of Venice, which lasted for more than 500 years (from 1278 to 1797). There are as many as 26 protected cultural monuments in the old town of Motovun, which is why this medieval town is on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list (https://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/5104/). The idea behind our film program is to reflect diversity – esthetical, thematic, geographical… As many films from as many countries as possible, in order to show that the world of film is much wider and more colorful than it often seems. With its selection of films and guests of honor, the festival celebrates the authors sticking to their artistic stubbornness, unconventionality and originality at all costs. With films and direct communication between filmmakers and film lovers we want to create a cozy spot for those who enjoy the magic of cinema.
