| Video Discription | St. Goar (Sankt Goar, in German) is one of the major little gems on the Rhine River Valley. It is also a gateway to magnificent Rheinsfels Castle, located above the town. (we have a separate video devoted exlusively to the castle, which you can go to by clicking the following link: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=Cj9ZlfhNgdY ) There is a pathway that leads directly up to it and we took that...not an overly strenuous climb, with wonderful views of St. Goar and the Rhine below. We did a completely separate video of our visit to this wonderful castle, an absolute delight. The sister city of St. Goarhausen (Sankt Goarhausen) is located directly across the river. St. Goar was named after the priest, hermit, monk Goar of Aquitaine, who had a strong influence there, building a hospital & chapel. He arrived around 618 A.D. in the area and decided to permanently settle there.
