It almost always comes down to these 5 things: 1. EXPECTATIONS Have they been documented? Do you have a written procedure? If you don't have your processes documented, this is your first step. 2. REWARDS Do you have a way of rewarding your employees for following the procedure? This could be as little as a pat on the back or you could implement some kind of financial bonus system when they hit a goal as a result of following the system. 3. CONSEQUENCES The opposite of rewards, what are the consequences when the procedures are not followed? Do you ignore it or let it go? Or do you have a process, such as verbal or written warnings? When is it time to let someone go as a result? 4. COMMUNICATION Has it been communicated to your employees? Have you actually told them? Do they have it in written form? Do they have manuals or checklists to ensure they are following the procedures? 5. BEHAVIOR OF THE LEADER If you don't follow your own procedures, if you don't set the example, then don't expect your employees to either.
