Zinc may be one of the most important nutrients you can take for your thyroid.
Here are three important benefits that zinc provides:
1. It is necessary for the conversion of T4 to T3 thyroid hormone (the most powerful thyroid hormone).
2. It’s essential for the immune response (important for those with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).
And 3. It’s required for thyroid hormone binding in the nucleus of your cells.
Zinc deficiency is actually very common among thyroid patients which is why they tend to do so well with zinc supplements. But in order to obtain these benefits, it must be used correctly. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your zinc supplement: 1. Make sure you are using the right formulation.
Here are the best forms to use if you have thyroid problems: zinc citrate, zinc glycinate, zinc chelate, zinc monomethionine, and zinc gluconate. Stay away from zinc oxide and zinc picolinate. 2. Make sure you are using the right dose.
The ideal dose is somewhere between 5 to 10mg taken every day. Taking a higher dose tends to cause indigestion as the body is only able to absorb a small amount at any given time. 3. Other thyroid-supporting nutrients can help enhance the effectiveness of zinc and help your thyroid function more effectively.
Some of my favorites include selenium, vitamin a, vitamin e, magnesium, vitamin d3, and guggul extract.
Depending on how you want to use zinc, you can get different benefits.
