| Video Discription | Exploring the Monastery of Alcobaça, the Monastery of Batalha, and the Convent of Christ in Tomar, three UNESCO World Heritage Site monasteries in central Portugal. These three monasteries in Portugal are absolutely fantastic places to visit. The Monastery of Alcobaça was founded in the 12th century and is closely associated with the Portuguese monarchy - the magnificent Gothic buildings are home to the tombs of several important Portuguese kings. Nearby, the Monastery of Batalha was built in the 14th century, commemorating victory over the Castillians in battle (hence the name!). It's another masterpiece of Gothic architecture, but in a very distinctive Portuguese style. And finally, the Convent of Christ in Tomar, dating to the 14th century. Another similar Gothic monastic complex, it celebrated the Reconquest of Iberia from the Moors. There's heaps to see here, so let's go exploring!
