| Video Discription | A rare binary star system has been discovered in our Milky Way galaxy and it’s destined to end in a massive supernova explosion. The binary star system looks like a cosmic pinwheel. It is some 8,000 light-years away from Earth. Astronomers never expected to find such a star system in our galaxy. One of these stars is the rarest star type known as the Wolf-Rayet. Only one out of a hundred million stars are big enough to be called Wolf-Rayets Wolf-Rayet stars are extremely bright and hot. After the supernova explosion, they will leave behind nothing but a dark void. Their combined mass is equal to 20 to 30 Suns. Both stars release huge amounts of carbon dust. The dust whirls around in the stellar winds created by the stars. The dust looks like a dusky, glowing tail due to the orbit of both stars. These winds are coming off the star system at around 12 million kilometers an hours. It is so fast that it equals 1% the speed of light.
