| Video Discription | Professor Tracey Rogers talks about the evolution of cetaceans, whales and dolphins. The first whales arose in the Eocene, when warm oceans teemed with fish and other marine life, an ideal place to hunt for a predator. But whales didn’t evolve as a straight-line from their land-mammal ancestor to the fully-aquatic mammals we know today. There were many different amphibious, or semi-aquatic types of whales that walked on land, swam in rivers and in coastal waters and oceans.
