Some notes I wrote on my phone the other night that made me want to make this short video (not very straight forward and very messy):
And sure, I respect the idea that learning new things, especially fundamental things can help you learn other stuff, but did Alexander the great really need to show more of an ability to learn before he became king at 19?
How much are we actually capable of at a young age? How productive could we be, if we had tailored education to our own needs, and not just one subsidized by a bunch of university endowments and testing companies. Who do the superintendents work for? What does public funding incentivize?
I do think there is a need for school (obviously) but it’s even more obvious that there’s a problem with its usefulness - why do people blame capitalism, what does that even mean? Are we upset at consumer choices? Do we wish the government just guaranteed jobs based on what was taught in school? How about, we let consumers and humans chose what direction they want to move in life and then ask the government to fund learning centers for children to help them be best in a position to build towards the actual future.
Why does school take away the confidence of so many? Children love dynamic markets. That’s why they love playing games outside, because the rules are clear, and the work needed to win is transparent. How do you land a job doing something you only learn about once, become 19 for like 2 years and then do that for 40. Why can’t you get a job with an undergraduate chemistry degree? Are these people who are so snobby about education really in a position to tell us what to do with our lives when their whole career is subsidized by taxpayer money?
Look, maybe you disagree with me here. Maybe you think the only real scientific innovations and anything that has really mattered over the past 100 years has been solely funded by the government. I think dynamic markets seem more efficient. That’s an argument for another time, but nonetheless, schools are not working for the current reality of the world. And we can’t fix this problem, until we become honest with ourselves on what the actual point of education is. Is it for your children to make money one day? Or become a learned citizen of the world based upon what an unelected committee deems valuable for your child to learn, neglecting what incentives they have or how much they actually care about your child’s well being.
One thing is for certain, it seems as if competition and a fear for self preservation causes many of us to become neurotic and defend stances that allow us to provide for those around us. So, maybe until we align our country’s goals with how far we progress in our own industries goals we will never solve this. But also, I do think dynamic markets solve this. And we never had trickle down economics and we don't have capitalism now, we have 80% reg capture and those industries suck and those are the ones people complain about when they say it’s capitalism fault.
