We dig into the new Volcano Hybrid from Storz and Bickel.
Welcome to Volcano Tips. We're excited today because we have the new Volcano Hybrid here to review this is everything you love about the Volcano with a new added feature. so let's take a look and see what makes this new Volcano so special. So always make sure that you've got an authentic product, that's why we recommend buying from our links from authorized Storz and Bickel dealers, says the authenticity seal so we know it's good.
Let's open this box up, see what kind of goodies are included. So you're gonna get a couple of extra pre-made easy valve bags to use with this unit, and then you're gonna get this box of parts that comes with it as well. It's gonna be a bunch of literature in there for you, cool Volcano sticker for your car, these nifty limited edition metallic stickers, and comprehensive instruction manual. What else, cleaning brush, got some extra screens and a liquid concentrate pad, extra o-ring, there's an extra air filter, here's the power cord. Now we're getting to the good stuff. All right, and here is our heating unit. And all Storz and Bickel vaporizers come with a free acrylic grinder, not my first choice but if you're in a pinch and you need to get down to business they work fine.
So, let's take a look here. All right so this is your heating unit, and this is what produces the precisely heated air that vaporizes your herbs. This is going to look very similar to the Volcano Classic and the Volcano Digit, you'll see it's got a digital readout so it's more like the Digit than it is like the Classic. It's got a couple of extra buttons that the regular Volcano Digit doesn't have, and that's the heat button and the air button. So if you look at the top here too you'll notice that this looks different than the other Volcano models if you've ever seen one. The main difference is these ridges here that allow the heating chamber to attach, and we'll get into that in a minute. So this unit comes with a detachable power cord, and we'll just simply plug it right in in the back, and then that will go in a regular 110 outlet.
Okay, so now we're powered up and we're ready for business. It's going to fire up, it's going to go through it startup mode, it's got Bluetooth so we can connect an app to it. So we plug the unit in, it'll show us that it's got power and that's what this indicator light means, and now what we want to do is we want to turn the heat on. So this is set to Celsius, preset to 180 degrees, you can see it coming up to temperature quickly. I think my first order of business as somebody uses the Fahrenheit temperature scale is to figure out how to change the temperature setting on this so it reads in my native language. So if you want to change the temperature readout from Celsius to Fahrenheit you'll just touch the minus and the plus at the same time, so now I'm at 360 set for 358 which is actually right around where I want to be. So this is already hot and ready to go.
So the other exciting new feature with the Volcano Hybrid is that this is equipped with Bluetooth, and there's a new app from Storz and Bickel. Now whether this is gimmick remains to be seen, but it does allow you to have a little more control over the machine and how it operates then you can get through this simple control panel. So you go to the App Store you find it it does have 1.6 stars which is a little concerning, but do people have a good experience leave a review? Usually not, so we're gonna give it a shot here and see if it's worth using. So I pull up the app and it says Volcano connect, so I'm going to enter the serial number of my Volcano. And where is serial number? It's on the bottom of the box, so in my case I'm gonna enter VH, Volcano Hybrid, and it's blah blah, it's a bunch of numbers. I think you only have to do this once, it's kind of a pain. Okay, got my serial number in there, and it's connected, and now the first thing it tells me is that there's an important new update available. So I'm going to let it update the firmware for my Volcano. And look that just changed, so it looks like it's doing its thing. So this is probably one of the more important features of the app as it allows you to upgrade the software on the Volcano, because now the Volcano has got a full-featured computer in it, they need to be able to push software updates. So in theory every time you update one of these firmware uploads you should get better performance, it should work better, they're fixing something and they're improving the product. In theory, so how long does this take, step 5 of 29. So, so far lesson learned: don't start a firmware update if you want to use your Volcano because you can't use your Volcano while it's doing its thing. And it tells me here that it’s on step 7, so that's cool, lets you know how far it's gone. Remember that's eight out of 29, not 8 out of 10, so I would imagine most people are going to have an update required the first time.. |
