General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to adopt a draft resolution that recommends to the Security Council the need for its favourable reconsideration of the State of Palestine's application for full membership of the United Nations. The GA draft expresses deep regret and concern at the veto by the United States that blocked a widely supported resolution in the Council on April 18th that would have paved the way for Palestine's full UN-membership. In the absence of such a favourable decision by the Council, where the dynamics have not shifted since the veto, the GA resolution also affords Palestine additional rights and privileges within the U.N. but without any voting rights.
