It's amazing how Toyota hybrids use complex energy accounting and book balancing to keep their batteries fully charged while consuming the least amount of gas.
Strong power and electric all-wheel drive are features that the other Toyota hybrids lack in the new RAV4 Hybrid. Combining the two is expected to make the otherwise standard RAV4 better than its gasoline-powered equivalent.
It's hardly shocking that Toyota hasn't made many visual changes to the RAV4, considering that this design is already five years old.
This LTD version adds a large panoramic sunroof, gunmetal 18-inch alloy wheels, and chrome door handles to liven things up. The other two are very good improvements, but I could do without the chrome.
The RAV4's dashboard gives off the unsettling impression that it is staring inside at you. Overall, the quality of the materials is rather high, with firmly fitting plastics and spongy soft-touch material on the dash in place of leatherette. Maybe too tight, because we couldn't exactly locate the source of the unpleasant squeaking coming from beneath the instrument cluster over potholes.
Despite the lack of A/C cupholders, this Toyota has a ton of innovative storage choices. The cupholders are spacious and designed to accommodate a cellphone by arranging it in a crosswise orientation. This front-facing primary device tray accommodates flagship phones up to seven inches in width and offers wireless charging. Although it's not the fastest wireless, and you'll need to connect the phone via USB to the infotainment system, it's still a good addition to the set.
It achieves a respectable 9 seconds to reach 100 kph thanks to a combination of a high-compression 174 horsepower 2.5 liter gasoline engine and front and rear electric motors providing 118 horsepower of assistance. The 0-100 kph speed decreases to an even more admirable 8.3 seconds when you flip on the sport mode. has an engine that is "green" and a virtually full gas tank. It is seldom matched by many competitors, and none of them is quite as cost-effective as the RAV4.
Even though the RAV4 isn't nearly as fuel-efficient as the hybrid Corolla, its performance was still astounding. Even after hours of agonizing through Manila traffic, the combined fuel economy was in the region of 17–18 km/L. When I drove more like I usually do on a daily basis, I saw inconsistent fuel efficiency in the 23–24 km/L range, with occasional jumps to 30 km/L+ after I was able to charge the battery.
Along with the amazing cameras and driver assistance, the RAV4 LTD also has a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, remote locking and starting, courtesy lighting, an automatic rear tailgate, and leather upholstery throughout.
CarPlay and Android Auto are available for infotainment, but the six speakers in the system are not very good, and the tiny seven-inch touchscreen is not very responsive. Although the hybrid's quietness enhances the quality of the speakers, neither silence nor insulation can compensate for the absence of powerful or distinct bass output. However, this isn't really a soundstage for Wagnerian music; rather, it's more of an easy listening atmosphere.
