Mauricio Pochettino could be without five players for Tottenham's game at home to Southampton on Sunday.
Pochettino will make late decisions on Kyle Walker and Victor Wanyama after defender Walker hurt his ankle at home on Monday while midfielder Wanyama sustained a knock against Millwall last weekend.
Harry Kane (ankle), Danny Rose (knee) and Erik Lamela (hip) are all out but Mousa Dembele is available again after recovering from an ankle problem.
Provisional squad: Lloris, Vorm, Lopez, Davies, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dier, Carter-Vickers, Wimmer, Walker, Trippier, Wanyama, Winks, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Sissoko, Onomah, Son, Janssen
Southampton boss Claude Puel will choose from an unchanged squad at Tottenham on Sunday.
Striker Charlie Austin is close to resuming training after a shoulder injury and defender Jeremy Pied is also making good progress after a knee operation and could train next week.
Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, full-back Matt Targett and centre-half Virgil Van Dijk are still out injured.
Provisional squad: Forster, Taylor, Bertrand, Yoshida, Caceres, Gardos, Cedric, Hesketh, Romeu, Clasie, Ward-Prowse, Isgrove, Tadic, Redmond, Boufal, Lewis, Stephens, Hojbjerg, McQueen, Sims, Rodriguez, Gabbiadini, Long.
auricio Pochettino is convinced Tottenham will not falter again without crocked Harry Kane – because Vincent Janssen has had his “wake-up call”.
England striker Kane, Spurs’ 19-goal top scorer, believes he could be back in as little as three weeks.
But in his absence, £18million flop Janssen hopes he will get more than a walk-on role against Southampton.
The Holland forward, signed in July, finally scored his first goal in open play in Sunday’s 6-0 FA Cup win over Millwall.
And Spurs coach Pochettino, asked about Janssen’s so far, said: “We’re happy with him. It is true that in some periods of the season his form was down.
“He needed a wake-up to be reminded that the possibility of playing could arrive at any time, but I’m happy with all the players and I understand when they are not happy with some situations.
“For now we have to find some solutions and we have many players who can cope with that pressure. We are confident in our squad and are not looking for excuses – we want to perform, score goals and win games.”
When Kane was sidelined by injury last autumn, Tottenham responded by winning four in a row – then went six games without a victory. |
