What you can visit in Tehran - Most visited touristic attractions of Tehran Milad Tower Also known as Tehran Tower, is a multi-purpose concrete tower. Stands at 435 m (1,427 ft) from base to the tip of the antenna. The head consists of a large pod with 12 floors, the roof of which is at 315 m (1,033 ft). Golestan Palace Also spelled Gulistan Palace, literally the Roseland Palace, is the former royal Qajar complex. The oldest of the historic monuments in Tehran, a world heritage. Belongs to the royal buildings that were enclosed within the mud-thatched walls. Azadi Tower Liberty Tower - one of the city' symbols. Marks the west entrance to the city. Combines elements of Sassanid and Islamic architecture. Built with white marble stone from the Esfahan region, there are eight thousand blocks of stone. Laleh Park A large recreation area. One of the biggest parks in Tehran. Provides pathways for walking and shade for picnics and relaxation. A popular meeting place for young people and a picnic area for families. Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art An art museum. Designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diba, who employed elements from traditional Persian architecture. Was inaugurated in 1977. Most of the museum area is located underground. Niavaran Palace Complex A historical complex situated in the northern part of the city. Consists of several buildings and a museum. The main building, completed in 1968, was the primary residence of the last Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the Imperial family. National Museum of Iran A combination of two museums, the old Muze-ye Irân-e Bâstân ("Archaeological Museum of Iran"), inaugurated in 1937), and the modernistic white travertine National Arts Museum ("Muze-i Honar-i Milli"), inaugurated in 1972. Saint Sarkis Cathedral An Armenian Apostolic church. The construction began from 1964 and was complete by 1970. The church was built by Sarkisian brothers in memory of their parents. In the early 1960s the prelacy offices was moved into current location. Carpet Museum of Iran Founded in 1976, the museum exhibits a variety of Persian carpets from all over Iran, dating from 18th century to present. Ehibition hall occupies 3,400 square meters (10,200 ft²) and its library contains 7,000 books. Mausoleum of Khomeini Houses the tomb of Ruhollah Khomeini, his wife Khadijeh Saqafi, and Ahmad Khomeini, his second son who died in 1995.
