Permanent Social Security Disability benefits are more difficult to get, as you must have a severe medical condition and be unable to work for 12 months. To proceed to work would result in death. This permanent disability claim requires a doctor to support the idea that the condition will last for at least 12 months. If your claim is successful, you would receive the benefits for the rest of your life. If not initially approved, you may be denied twice and ultimately attend a hearing in which you seek to secure lifelong benefits. Temporary disability benefits through New Jersey State Disability entail having a severe medical condition that is not going to last forever. You would be entitled to six months of benefits if you have a successful claim. The benefits are paid at a maximum of about two thirds of your regular salary. The 3-part application must involve both your employer and your doctor for completion. Benefits normally begin a few weeks after you have applied.
