STAGELESS im Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin vom 02.10.2020–29.11.2020 sind Fotograf Sven Marquardt und unser Hauptkurator Felix Hoffmann im Gespräch bei C/O Berlin Asks. Im Oktober 2019 hat Sven Marquardt die Mitglieder des internationalen Ensembles des Palasts unmittelbar nach einem Auftritt porträtiert. Entstanden sind so fluide Porträts von Darsteller*innen, die gerade im Begriff sind, das geübte Repertoire an professionellen Gesichtsausdrücken abzulegen, um zu ihrem eigenen, authentischen Ich zurückzukehren. Kein halbes Jahr nach dem Shooting fehlt den porträtierten Künstler*innen plötzlich die Bühne, denn aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie mussten alle Vorstellungen im Palast bis Dezember abgesagt werden. Die Zusammenarbeit des Palastes mit C/O Berlin beweist jedoch, dass ein Haus, das aufgrund der Coronakrise aktuell kein eigenes Programm hat, sehr wohl zu einem außergewöhnlichen Gastspiel einladen kann, indem es sich in einen Ausstellungsort verwandelt, um seinen Besucher*innen einen fotografischen Blick hinter die Kulissen zu schenken. ++++ On the occasion of the exhibition SVEN MARQUARDT . STAGELESS, on view from 02.10.2020–29.11.2020 at Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin, photographer Sven Marquardt and our chief curator Felix Hoffmann are in conversation with C/O Berlin Asks. In October 2019, Sven Marquardt took portraits of international ensemble members of Friedrichstadt-Palast just after a performance. Marquardt’s portraits capture the fluid transformation of performers setting aside their practiced repertoire of stage expressions to reveal their true faces. Less than six months after the portrait shooting, the artists shown lost their familiar stage when all performances had to be cancelled until December due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, this collaboration between the Palast and C/O Berlin makes clear that a performing arts venue unable to mount an independent program of shows due to the COVID-19 crisis is nevertheless very capable of staging a one-of-a-kind event. By transforming into an exhibition space, the Palast gives its visitors a chance to take a photographic peek behind the curtain. |
