This gentleman came into the ER with what he thought was a broken rib, but his scans revealed a substernal goiter extending significantly into his chest. He had no bulge in his neck, no trouble breathing, no difficulty swallowing and no changes in voice. Luckily, this patient did not need a total thyroidectomy. I did a right thyroid lobectomy and was able to save the left side of his thyroid gland, so now he will not need to take any thyroid hormone supplements. Watch the full video to learn more.
