| Video Discription | Shoulder instability is often due to trauma. Instability means that the shoulder joint dislocates or subluxates (near dislocates). In some cases the shoulder remains loose (recurrent instability). In this particular case the patient had a unique lesion called an Anterior Labral Periosteal Sleeve Avulsion or “ALPSA” lesion. The lesion occurs at the time of the initial injury. These lesions can be seen on an MRI arthrogram. When this lesion occurs it will usually lead to a much higher incidence of recurrent instability. In this video I am showing the displaced labrum and periosteal sleeve (ALPSA LESION). I show how the labrum is pulled back up to the rim of the glenoid . If this is done properly and securely it will stabilize the joint and keep the humeral head from dislocating. ▶️ Even though it looks relatively straightforward, it’s a technically challenging procedure❗️In this case I used six anchor sutures to secure the labrum/capsule back to the the rim of the glenoid.
