There are 54 countries in Africa but not all these 54 countries function equally, There are countries in Africa that have manage to maintain a certain level of stability be in the Political, social and Ecomonic domain but in this video we shall focus on countries that have maintain a stable political atmosphere despite the craziness happening in some sub regions of the continent. Most African countries are known for Bribery and corruption with selfish leaders who hold on to power for decades upon decades which plunges these countries into civil wars amongst other crisis. Some of the indicators include political rights, Corruption Perception, Civil liberties, competitiveness and opposition just to mention a few. The countries were ranked using the political stability index which ranges from Minus (-)2.5 to 2.5 with -2.5 being the weakest and 2.5 being the strongest. So without any further delay, here are the Top 10 Most politically stable countries in Africa. 10. Senegal – Politcal Stability Index – 0.06 , Located in the western part of African and with a population of about 16 Million People, Senegal is one of the most peaceful countries in Africa. Currently, Senegal has a quasi-democratic political culture, one of the more successful post-colonial democratic transitions in Africa. Local administrators are appointed and held accountable by the president. Marabouts, religious leaders of the various Muslim brotherhoods of Senegal, have also exercised a strong political influence in the country especially during Wade's presidency. In 2009, Freedom House downgraded Senegal's status from "Free" to "Partially Free", based on increased centralisation of power in the executive. By 2014, it had recovered its Free status. Very little political problems is heard of Senegal and with a political stability index of 0.06, Senegal comes in at 10th place. 9. Ghana – Political Stability Index – 0.10 Ghana is one of the most peaceful and visited countries in Africa. Located in west Africa, it has a population of about 31 million people. Ghana is a unitary presidential constitutional democracy with a parliamentary multi-party system that is dominated by two parties — the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Ghana alternated between civilian and military governments until January 1993, when the military government gave way to the Fourth Republic of Ghana after presidential and parliamentary elections in late 1992. The 1992 constitution of Ghana divides powers among a Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (President of Ghana), parliament (Parliament of Ghana), cabinet (Cabinet of Ghana), council of state (Ghanaian Council of State), and an independent judiciary (Judiciary of Ghana). The Government of Ghana is elected by universal suffrage after every four years. Presidential Elections in Ghana are usually very peaceful with very little or no Opposition. 8. The Gambia – Political Stability Index – 0.11 The Gambia is one of the smallest countries in Africa be it in population or Surface area, however it size does not stop it from being one of the stable countries in Africa. Located in the western part of Africa, Gambia has a population of about 2.1 million people spread across 10.689 km2 of land. The Gambia gained independence from the United Kingdom on 18 February 1965. From 1965 to 1994, the country was ostensibly a multi-party liberal democracy. It was ruled by Dawda Jawara and his People's Progressive Party (PPP). However, the country never experienced political turnover during this period and its commitment to succession by the ballot box was never tested. The Gambia has had a number of constitutions in its history. The two most significant are the 1970 constitution, which established The Gambia as a presidential republic, and the 1996 constitution, which served as a basis for Jammeh's rule and was kept following Barrow's victory in 2016. Despite the opposition from its last presidential Election, the country is over all a very peaceful country with a very stable political atmosphere. 7. Rwanda – Political Stability Index – 0.12 Despite the Crisis that plaque the country in the Early 90s, Rwanda became very famous and loved when its capital city Kigali became the cleanest city in Africa, a position it has been occupying for a long time now. |
