We ate a large breakfast then drove 15 minutes to the park, booking a bus ticket and checking out all the infographics regarding bears, weather and trails to walk. At Shiretoko’s Goko, or 5 lakes, parties can walk around and check out the unspoiled landscape, untouched by human hands (except for light walking trails). The boardwalk at the west side of the attraction features an awesome view of the mountains, coast and sea. Next, we checked out Kamuiwakka Falls, a thermal hot spring that is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountainous terrain was evident in the steep hills of the waterfall, though one couldn’t venture too far upstream due to the danger of falling rocks and piping hot water temperatures. From there, we briefly checked out Furepe Falls, another waterfall that is fed by an underground river. The lighthouse, observation deck and clear blue skies made it very scenic and one of my personal favorite viewing spots. After a long day exploring the park, we headed back to the inn and had a fresh, delicious course dinner of locally caught seafood. That wraps up day 21 ~ Thank you for watching!
