Each year during the winter months, Hokkaido's Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival brings a dose of colorful magic to this corner of Japan with numerous illuminated ice sculptures. The event also typically includes other fun events like ice skating, ice slides, fireworks, and food booths. The event runs from 10 am until 8 pm daily, but the illumination starts from 4.30 pm. Admission is priced at 500 yen. At Lake Shikotsu, a village of ice sculptures and structures will adorn the shore. Shikotsu-Toya National Park (支笏洞爺国立公園, Shikotsu-Tōya Kokuritsu Kōen) was named after its two famous lakes, Toya and Shikotsu. The park is located in southwestern Hokkaido. Its proximity to Sapporo makes it a popular destination for travelers with limited time in Hokkaido. Shikotsu-Toya is the easiest national park to access from Sapporo and offers visitors a range of outdoor activities from hiking to hot springs. The spectacular scenery includes caldera lakes, onsen towns and volcanic mountains. There are five parts to Shikotsu-Toya National Park, each featuring various attractions.
