| Video Discription | PARAISÓPOLIS, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL - Part 3 of my 2022 Brazil Travel series comes from Paraisópolis, one of Brazil's largest favelas with a population estimated to be between 80-100k, located in São Paulo, Brazil's MEGACITY! Yes, you read the title correctly - foreigner goes to a favela alone and this is what happened! Note that I do NOT advise visiting a favela solo. It is best to visit a favela on an organised tour OR with a local who can show you around. These areas are somewhat if not totally neglected by local governments, therefore they are generally run by cartels or other organisations, meaning as a foreigner, you may be in danger. Is Brazil dangerous? Is Brazil safe? We should ask these questions and remember our risk tolerances are different. I have been filming in places like this for years, you may not feel as comfortable as me. The intention of this video was to quash misconceptions of favelas or slums (or less affluent areas - the word favela or slum can come across as derogatory) and to highlight a real POSITIVE going on right now. Brasil Favela Xpress is a company set up by Giva Pereira, a delivery service set up during the Covid-19 pandemic to allow access to deliveries and to create employment opportunities for locals.
