In this episode of Scamfish, Cynthia tells a story about her long-distance relationship with a romance scammer who said he was a retired pilot. Cynthia & her husband were married for 25 years & built a beautiful home with her husband in Florida with plans to start retirement together. They both fled to Boston after they were both diagnosed with Cancer. Her husband has diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma & she was his caretaker while she still was dealing with breast cancer. After the tragic death of her husband dying to Brain Cancer, she turned to online dating to find companionship. She met a handsome man named Glenn Perry Hoffman on eHarmony & she fell in love with his photos on his profile. The plot became thicker when he started to ask Cynthia for money to help fund his Car Exporting business & get out of being stuck in Brazil. Cynthia would do anything to get Glenn out of Brazil she started to send him large amounts of money. She would go onto mortgage her house twice, max her credit cards, wipe out her 401k & even borrowed money from her Boss from work. She would do anything to get her long-distance lover out of Brazil & back to the United States. These are true stories used to help spread awareness of these terrible situations people are put in. These people are survivors, not victims. We help people find lost loved ones and verify if someone you’ve met online really is who they say they are.
