Republican voters in Indiana were irate this week after they learned that the woman who they voted for - and the woman who won the Republican primary in which they were voting - had actually been dead for two months. Voters said that no one informed them that the woman had died, and there was nothing on her website that indicated she was no longer alive. They also blamed local media for not actually telling anyone what was happening. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this very bizarre event.

The state of Indiana held their primaries this week, and in the Republican primary, a 59-year-old woman by the name of Jennifer Pace, easily won that Republican primary, and she is now the candidate going up against the incumbent Democrat on the ballot for that district. There's just one problem. Mrs. Pace is dead. In fact, Ms. Pace actually died two months ago, but nobody bothered to tell the voters in Indiana that the, uh, Republican they were gonna vote for was no longer among the living. And voters, when they found out about this after, of course, they had voted, were understandably off. Like, why did nobody tell us that we're all voting for a dead woman? We, we could have picked somebody else that, you know, may have a chance at winning a seat. Pretty sure the, the dead woman, no offense to her, probably not gonna win, especially in the Democratic Leaning District.
The Democrat's gonna win. But the Republican voters were understandably furious at their own party and the local media for not telling them she was dead. Here's what one voter said. No one knew she was dead. Last week. I researched the candidates online. I read their websites and questionnaire responses. I Googled them. No mention of her death, no obituaries. Local media failed again. Now the Indiana Republican Party, press secretary and digital director, Griffin Reed, provided a statement to the Gazette stating about her death saying, it is our understanding that that is accurate. So after this whole thing happened and everybody votes for the dead woman, the local paper reached out to the Republican party like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. Is she dead? And the Republican party is like, it is our understanding that yes, this is accurate.
Why? Why didn't you tell people like you can't? What did you think was gonna happen? Did you honestly think that, you know, somehow she was gonna spring back up out of the grave and be like, oh, sweet. Okay. All right, I'll do this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's have a zombie in Congress, right? This is insane. Why is politics like this? Folks? Stories like this drive me crazy. But they also kind of give me hope because this is absolutely hilarious. This is how dysfunctional the Republican party is, okay. Not only are they running a dead woman, but they don't even have the decency to tell the voters that, I'm sorry, but your candidate has been six feet under for two months. That's how little respect the Republican party has for their voters. |
