The central issue at the heart of Donald Trump's criminal trial is whether or not he directed the payments and the cover up of the payments to silence the woman with whom he had an affair. In other words, how obsessed is Trump with controlling things? To get an answer to that question, we don't have to look any further than his recent demands that his lawyers be more "aggressive" in court - a demand that was clearly granted, to his own detriment. That is a perfect example of why the information presented in this case is so powerful, because Trump is still living that very same "control everything" lifestyle. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Donald Trump is his own worst enemy in the courtroom. And while over the past week, he's actually managed to keep himself awake. So you know, you gotta give him credit for that. He's not dozing off in the middle of the courtroom every day anymore. But recently, you know, about two weeks ago, it was reported that Donald Trump was getting very angry at his lawyers because they weren't being, as it was reported, aggressive enough against the judge, against the witnesses and against the jury. And at the time, I sat right here, I did segments on it, talking about the fact that the lawyers have a choice. You either go with your law school training and your decades of experience and lean on that, or you do what Donald Trump says, and you make a fool of yourself. In the courtroom, as we've seen from the last two weeks since those stories initially emerged, Donald Trump's lawyers made their decision.
They decided to go with what Trump is telling them. The guy that didn't go to law school, the guy that has basically lost every trial that he's been in, and they're gonna listen to his legal advice. So in the last two weeks, we've seen these lawyers become more aggressive. We have seen them get in trouble with the judge for violating the rules of the court, continuing to ask questions even after an objection was sustained about the question. They're off the judge. They're off the jury, but they're doing it 'cause Trump wanted them to do that. So why am I even saying that? Because that is what this entire case hinges upon. Now think about this for a minute. The whole thing that the prosecution has to do in this case is prove that Donald Trump is so, in the words of Amanda [email protected], obsessed with controlling things, that he directed all the hush money payments, he directed the coverup.
Nobody else was above him. He was the guy that made all decisions. Therefore, he is guilty. That's what the prosecution has to prove. And it all hinges on Donald Trump's obsession with control. And as Marcotte pointed out in her recent salon.com column, that's exactly what's happening in the courtroom right now, and the jury can see it. Now, obviously, they're not allowed to go out there and consume this kind of media to understand this, but the prosecutors are, and that is something that the prosecutors need to bring up in court to help bolster their case and tell the jurors that, Hey, you think this guy really didn't direct all this? You've seen the flip in his lawyers in the last two weeks compared to the first two weeks, because he wanted them to get more aggressive because he micromanages everything. So you really think a guy that's that obsessed with control, that obsessed with micromanaging, would just let Michael Cohen go off and just make these hush money payments on his own. You think Trump's people at his Trump organization would've just classified these as legal expenses without consulting Donald Trump the man who has to be |
