As an adult, McDowall made numerous film appearances, most notably in "Cleopatra" and the "Planet of the Apes" film and television series, where he portrayed Cornelius, Caesar and Galen, roles for which he became iconic. His talent transcended genres, from drama to science fiction and horror. He became known for his affable personality and dedication to his craft. He earned critical acclaim and numerous awards throughout his career, including a Tony and a Primetime Emmy.
