| Video Discription | The Old Vine Hero Awards is an initiative run by The Old Vine Conference to recognise the dedication, tenacity and talents of those working with old vines and their wines around the world. This is the second year of The Old Vine Hero Awards, our inaugural award was won by Dr Laura Catena last year and it was awarded to her at an Old Vine Community dinner held in London, March 2023. As a global initiative that sets out to unite the global wine community we felt that this year holding the award results virtually would enable many more to participate and be part of this special occasion. Building on the success and global response to the inaugural Old Vine Hero Award, 2024 sees the widening of the categories from one Old Vine Hero to five, allowing space to recognise and celebrate the diverse range of disciplines and expertise of those working in the virtuous cycle of old vine preservation today. Nominations for the Old Vine Hero Awards 2024 fell into 5 award categories: Viticulture Winemaking Research Communication Commercial Impact We received 105 nominations representing individuals and organisations from 17 countries. Thanks to our international panel of judges, all experts in old vines, the nominations were whittled down to a shortlist of 16. We then enlisted the help of the global wine community to vote for the winners of each category. The poll closed at 9 o'clock on Thursday 21st March with just under 3,000 votes having been cast which goes some way to show just how far reaching the old vine movement has become. This is a recording of the results of each award being announced and presented to the winners. |
