| Video Discription | Canada's latest/largest/most expensive jail facility of $580 Million is located at 18415 - 127 St. NW in Alberta's capital city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Designed by ONPA Architects, this new facility will replace the current 31-year-old Edmonton Remand Centre located in downtown Edmonton. When it opens, the New Edmonton Remand Centre will house 1,952 inmates in seven pods of living units. With future potential expansion it will be able to hold up to 2,816 inmates in 10 different pods. The selected site is approximately 16 hectares or about the size of 27 football fields and is located on the northern side of downtown Edmonton. It was the site of a large wildcat strike over safety issues in late April 2013. It is now open and accepting prisoners and is Canada's most expensive and largest penal facility to date.
