3D Shapes for Kids - 3D Shape Properties. A fun math video which teaches your child all the properties of 3D shapes. Learn the different shape names and how many faces, edges and vertices they have. A range of shapes suitable for children in KS1 and KS2.
There are different shapes out there and when we talk about the 3D shapes then we should also mention the different properties which are related to them. Kids should be well aware of these different properties and should know about them from an early age to spot out the differences.
3D shapes (three dimensional shapes) have their different properties and to make it easier for the kids to know more about them, we brought this video to make it easier for the kids to grasp it all. Before learning about the properties of the different 3D shapes, there are some words in the vocabulary of these shapes that kids should know about, such as "face" which is given to any flat surface, "edge" which is given to any side of a 3D shape where two faces of the solid figure meet, and the "vertex" which describes the point where the edges of a solid figure meet.
If these different names are going to be applied on the cube shape, we will need to mention that there are 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices. There are different cubes out there which the kids actually deal with in their toys and daily life, such as the dice for example or even the wooden cubes in general.
There is also the cuboid which consists of 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices. The different objects that could be referred to as a cuboid include the cereal box or even the book.
The cylinder is another 3D shape which the kids learn early in their lives and this includes 3 faces, 2 edges and no vertices. The different objects in the real world that are considered cylinders, there is the toilet paper, the sweets' boxes and the jam jars.
There is also the sphere, which is a shape that is only with one face and with no edges or vertices. There are lots of different objects taking the shape of the sphere, such as the orange, the ball and lots of different things.
There is also the cone shape and this 3D shape is formed of 2 faces, one edge and one vertex. The cone is like the ice cream cone that you eat, the cone shape of the traffic instrument that is found in the street, or the cone that looks like the birthday celebration hats which are also taking the same shape.
The triangular prism is the next 3D shape on our list which consists of 5 faces, 9 edges and 6 vertices. The objects which are found out there taking the triangular prism include the Toblerone chocolate pack, the cheese and the tent.
The square based pyramid is also a 3D shape and this consists of 5 faces, 8 edges and 5 vertices. The square based pyramid examples from the real life objects, there is the pyramid and the top of the house.
Adding to this long list, there is the tetrahedron which is formed of 4 faces, 6 edges and 4 vertices. There are some objects that also take the shape of the tetrahedron, such as the kite.
The last shape is the hexagonal prism and this one is formed of 8 faces, 18 edges and 12 vertices. From the real life objects which are found out there taking the form of the hexagonal prism, there is the honey bees house.
There are lots of methods and techniques that kids could learn about the shapes through and we have provided different videos here which parents could depend on. Kids could learn lots of different things about the 2D and 3D shapes in general (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-uRABe5sFE), they could play a little bit to make learning easier and guess the shapes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmfCdqxTjEw), and kids could also learn the shapes and at the same time learn more about the colors (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4BD3Rv17lo).
These are the pieces of information we have when it comes to the kids and educating them more about the shapes and about learning more about their properties, the 3D and the 2D ones.
Enjoy watching this video along with your kids and let us hear the feedback about how positively they responded to it in the end.
