The world is full of crazy-talented people telling their stories - be it through film, games, animation or design. I want to help them by providing soundtracks to those stories, with free, high-quality music. However, releasing music for free is a huge, experimental risk and a rather terrible business decision 😊. The nature of CC-BY (Creative Commons License) also means I can't claim traditional performance royalties from its use - an income source from which a lot producers make much of their total income. However, generous support from patrons together with the fact that I gain exposure which means my music gets streamed on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music helps make this model of music release work, and will help me to continue making more free music, and making the best music I can. It also means I can make a living from doing something I love, and that is really something special. How does Patreon work? By becoming my patron, you are pledging to contribute a specific amount of money per month. The money you contribute goes towards supporting what I do: creating cinematic, high-quality CC-BY music. This can be cancelled at any time, and you are under no obligation to contribute more than you can afford. Can I cancel my pledge? Of course! You can cancel your ongoing pledge at any time. I completely understand that circumstances change - you are under no obligation from me. What will my money be used for? Your contributions will go towards the ongoing costs of sample library subscriptions, software updates and web hosting - all of which make it possible for me to write, produce and distribute my music freely for you all to use. My goals will update to show how close your donations are to making that a reality. If your patron contributions continue to increase, I can start investing in new gear, plugins, more studio time - expanding my toolset to improve the quality of the music I can produce, and I will update my goals accordingly. The dream is to make a living from releasing free music - a paradox I hope I can achieve some day! Your pledges and donations will go towards making the best music I can possibly make, as quickly as possible - so you all can enjoy the benefits of useful creative commons music for your stories - in whatever form you tell them. How often do you release new music? I aim to release 2-3 new tracks each month - sometimes more!
