Mass General Brigham’s Community Care Vans are working in partnership with our Outreach Program with Native American Communities to deliver vital healthcare services to American Indian communities in Massachusetts, bridging gaps and restoring wellness where it’s needed most. As part of our community health strategy, we are focusing efforts on communities that have been most impacted by generational health disparities. Earlier this month, these Community Health teams and the Chappaquiddick Tribe of the Wampanoag Indian Nation collaborated to bring mobile health services to a Chappaquiddick tribal event in Stoughton. Attendees took advantage of the services the care van has to offer—hypertension and diabetes care visits, health education and other resources. “By combining our expertise, the Community Care Van and Outreach Program have formed a vital alliance to serve American Indian communities in Massachusetts,” said Ellen Bell, MBA, MPH, director, Community Health Outreach and Training Programs. “Together, we’re not just providing healthcare services; we’re fostering trust, empowerment and lasting wellness.” “Our Community Care Van Teams have welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with our tribal communities and expand mobile medical opportunities to these underserved communities,” added Priya Sarin Gupta, MD, MPH, medical director of the Community Care Vans. As part our systemwide United Against Racism initiative, the Mass General Brigham Community Care Team partners with various community organizations to bring care to people where they are in their communities. The Outreach Program with Native American Communities supports health care access, equity and availability to local and national American Indian and Alaska Native communities. “Thank you for joining us over the weekend—we appreciate that you have the capabilities to travel to areas that may ordinarily be difficult to access these services,” said Shana Simmons (aka Strong Doe), Tribal Council Member. “Our hopes are that partnering with the Outreach Program will be instrumental in promoting proactive health practices for all of our Tribal citizens.”

Doctors across our system are testing generative-AI programs that listen in on patient visits and update medical records. We hope this technology will help improve efficiency and reduce physician burnout.
