Dangerous Roads V1.0

A Dangerous Road Challenge Map

  1. Spencer Johnson
    DANGEROUS ROADS

WARNING: This map may be hard to run for low-end PC's

New map! This has been an idea I have had for a while and I am very excited for you to try it out. This map is inspired by South America and features 2 dangerous roads for you to travel. They are both pretty long to travel so make sure you pack some water!

And once again, thank you to Camodo Gaming for sponsoring this map, along with any Patrons supporting me!

hey man, your work is amazing! everything I've played that you created exceeds expectations. I was also wondering about "honey I shrunk the car 4," if you were perhaps still planning to release it to the public eventually, or if it will stay exclusive to Patreon.

This map is not the type that I usually play, however, I did very much enjoy it. It does legitimately feel dangerous, making the user very cautious in their driving, but isn't impossible for a vehicle that's not set up for off-road use. In my first drive through it, I used a modified (for road use) six-wheeled Bolide. The only portion of the map it struggled with in the slightest is the final fifth of it, with the narrow mud section (kept bumping the rocks, which in turn pushed me off the ledge despite my low speed since it's so narrow. Not a complaint!) and the rocks in the road afterwards proving to be an issue due to the differential and suspension setup (only a mild complaint, due to how it affects road vehicles).

My main gripe with the main road is the layout of the hazards and their pacing. After the waterfall section of the map, it feels very unnatural how the obstacles don't repeat themselves, and very much like a trial more than an actual road (or for an analogy, a math test with sections for each sub-subject, like graphing and algebra being separate). With each section I drove through, I thought "This is an introduction to this type of obstacle. It'll be used in conjunction with one of the others later," but that "later" never came. Reaching the end felt more like a "That's it?" than a "Hurrah!"

I really enjoy the types of obstacles present, particularly the flowing water that goes alongside the road and the "dusty" road surfaces. The way the water on the road (and the muddy section the water eroded into it) pulled my car into it, and me having to fight it from going in is loads of fun. Add in the fact that the water goes around curves and that my car doesn't have ABS, which makes it even better.

As for the dirt road, I don't have nearly as much to say. I liked it, loved the layout, but could've used more obstacle variety than just rocks and deeper mud. Vehicle choice is a bit more important on it (the Bolide didn't make it past about the first third, got stuck on the rocks), but I'd say that's a good thing since road car shouldn't be capable of traversing it.

In conclusion, I really enjoy this map. Love the altitude, love the looks, falling off the map feels perilous since I have a fear of heights, but it feels like a car testing ground more than a proper road at times.

It was kind of meant to be a trial road rather than something real, but I appreciate your review! Very in-depth and well thought out :)

It could benefit from some optimization.

It's as good as I can get it, it's mainly the BeamNG jungle trees that are heavy on the graphics

Really nice offroad map, enjoyed it a ton. One small gripe: no time trials (through the time trial menu, not missions). Could you add some especially rallies? Thanks in advance
