Hikko Mori Nashville Before hopping behind the decks, Nashville-based dj and producer Anthony Merriweather, known by his alias Hikko Mori, found an outlet with music in beatmaking – drawing inspiration from the likes of Madlib, Dirty Projectors, The Beastie Boys and Stereolab early in his musical journey that has since influenced his own production styles, sounds and selections. Whether sourcing sounds from obscure private press records to scouring the internet for the best tracks to fit a mood or venue – he prides himself as a crate digger that prioritizes curation as a dj. His selection is often soulful, not being confined to genre, but partial to music coming out of the broken beat, jazz and deep house scenes. Being a photojournalist prior to pursuing music has shown a translation of his love for storytelling. What was then visual is now a journey of sounds, emotions and frequencies. You may find yourself slightly off the beaten path during a set, but it’s all in the grand scheme of things. Elusive in nature, his presence in the booth evades an ego-driven approach and remains focused on the musical presentation. He’s slowly been creating a name for himself through uploads of mixes on his Youtube channel – with his most popular 70s and 80s disco and funk vinyl mix surpassing 500,000 views in just a couple months. Since, he’s made appearances with mixes on My Analog Journal and Radio 1001 in London, England, and Maxi Radio in Leiden, Netherlands. He’s spent most of his career thus far curating sounds for bars and lounges around Tennessee and has shifted more of his focus toward his on Youtube channel, music production and events, projects and tours sanctioned by his label Hikko Works.
