My name is Starsky Carr and I make informative and entertaining videos for musicians on my <a href="http://www.youtube.com/starskycarr">YouTube channel</a> which has received a really enthusiastic and positive response from viewers for creating what is essentially a community service for cash-strapped musicians. A little background I try to cut through the marketing hype and forum opinions to give unbiased demos, reviews and comparisons of music tech, synthesisers, drum machines and effects.  Hopefully helping the community to understand the pros and cons of various bits of kit to make informed decisions without the noise of opinion clouding anyones judgement.  I've used YouTube for all assorts of things in the past so thought it would be nice to give back a little. I originally started the channel to demo a couple of my synths, and show the differences between some of the kit in the studio. Standard reviews don't help when you've got a few options to choose from.  Most of us can only buy something and hope it's the best use of our cash. How does something sound and perform side-by-side with other similar kit? There's no way of knowing especially if you can't get to a store. If you do have a store nearby with the items in stock, it's unlikely you'll be able to spend much time analysing them side-by-side. They might be in different rooms... there's background noise.. you're listening on headphones... it's simply not an option for most of us. Then there's the obvious difficulty of trying to figure out how everything works when standing in the store! ... and that's only if you can get to a store. So I started to review and demo more and more of my kit and it soon became apparent that the community finds the videos really useful, and I started receiving requests and some people even sent their kit to me to take a look at.  Why am I opening a Patreon Account? Firstly, its important to know that I don't get paid for any of my reviews, I'm not sponsored by anyone and this enables me to be completely unbiased and fair.   So bit by bit I've ended up buying and selling a tonne of equipment at my own expense.  I've literally spent thousands developing the channel.  My cashflow is essentially: <ol><li>Buy something new</li><li>Review it  </li><li>Sell it used</li><li>Lose fees, value and postage every time!!  </li></ol>I also keep some bits so I can put them up against new releases I know are coming to the market soon... so have to have a 'float' of synths and stuff for the channel. There are so many more things I could review and demo if only I had the extra cash.   There's a reason not many others create such in-depth comparisons - it's not only the cash and stock required.. but it takes hours and hours to produce the videos to such a high standard, ensuring the reviews are fair - everything important is covered - and are technically useful.  It takes so much longer for a comparison than a standard review - my PolyD vs Minimoog video took over 18 hours (not including initially playing the PolyD for a few hours to understand its features and workflow).  On average it takes up to 2-3 days full-time, taking away my ability to make cash through other sources.  But as viewers find it useful, I enjoy it and see it as service to cash strapped musicians, and  I need your help to keep developing the channel Thank You  This is very much a one man operation, but thanks to Patreon and your support it can grow into so much more.
