Well this was a striking, trippy surprise.

It stumbles a bit when trying to connect it to The Omen franchise (the plot feels more like Rosemary's Baby anyway) but this was clearly created with a vision. Many of the visuals are vivid and very memorable. A shot of a frantic eyeball in the climax, the orange/golden lighting of Italy, the way candles are framed, it did a lot to prevent the 2 hour runtime from feeling overlong.

This isn't scary. But it's eerie and bizarre and I dug it.

A wonderfully animated movie with clear inspiration from the novel 100 Years of Solitude. Magical realism in an animated project makes perfect sense, and everyone's powers plus the house itself brought this genre to the mainstream in an engaging way. The lead's voice acting is fantastic. Most of the songs are good, aside from the sister song toward the end.

Too bad the finale felt like those glass shards in the story; it falls apart and the movie haphazardly slaps them together. In fact I would say the entire 3rd act is a step down from the greatness before.

    The Godfather: Part III

When it isn't being absurd, (the helicopter scene) or pointless (the cousin romance subplot) or poorly acted (Joe Mantegna, Sofia Coppola, the list goes on) or convoluted (basically the entire plot) or amateur (the poor use of flashbacks and voiceover) The Godfather: Part III is extraordinarily boring.
