Kingdom Hearts sold how many?!

For all those who wondered how well a Disney RPG could possibly do, heres your answer. Stay tuned for the Greatest Hits version.

On Monday, Square Electronic Arts LLC announced that the Disney/Square collaboration Kingdom Hearts sold its 1 millionth copy in the United States. Even with its camera problems and that blasted Gummi Ship, the game has proved broadly popular, selling over 3 million copies in Japan, Europe, and the United States combined.

In the press release, Doreen McKenzie, director of merchandising for GameStop, said Kingdom Hearts is one of the top-selling PlayStation 2 titles this holiday season. Square has generated a lot of excitement with this title and we are excited to offer it to our customers. Despite the success of the game, you cant help but wonder how much better sales for the game could have been. This holiday season is turning out to be the worst in three decades. As resilient as the video game industry has been, the hurt is being felt all over the market.

Square and Disney hope to boost their sales numbers for this quarter with Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, a remixed version with new enemies, Heartless, Keyblades, and abilities. The game will be released in Japan on January 26, but is unlikely to be announced for a release in the US.
