'We Thought We Were Gonna Die': Hot Air Balloon Malfunctions Mid-Flight Causing Crash in Residents Yard
- Title 'We Thought We Were Gonna Die': Hot Air Balloon Malfunctions Mid-Flight Causing Crash in Residents Yard
- Summary Passengers called their families thinking they might die as a valve malfunction on this hot air balloon lead to the eventual crash on an Australian resident's front yard. Jayde Magookin was with his wife, Aelia as they were expecting a beautiful sunset flight over Elwood, Victoria on April 20th, when all of sudden a valve broke meaning more hot air was being used which used all of their fuel causing a gradual drop in altitude. The rooftops got closer and closer as Jayde managed to begin filming from his phone after their basket had just struck the top of an apartment building as they contacted their families thinking that they might die because of this malfunction. They faced a rooftop balcony as the descent became more rapid, glancing the top of the building before heading into the treetops. Branches and leaves intruded in on the basket as Jayde and Aelia took cover by ducking down to prevent them from falling out at a dangerous height. The sound of larger trunks breaking dominated the video until a loud crash signified their unfortunate landing. Although it was a terrifying experience for all passengers, there were no serious injuries or damages caused. Jayde said: "We were a mixture of terrified and shocked, we thought we were going to die so we contacted our families. "A valve malfunction in the balloon caused the balloon to keep releasing hot air so we ran out of fuel trying to keep it afloat. "A lot have questioned how it could be scary because they see it as a slow moving balloon but I would like to see them in that same position and say the same thing! "We destroyed the top part of someone's apartment building, it was crazy!" ENDS
