Der Film schildert eindringlich die Geschichte einer U-Boot-Besatzung, die nach vielen gefährlichen Abenteuern schließlich doch noch von den Kriegsgegnern zur Hölle geschickt werden.
Der Untergang der tollkühnen Männer in ihrer schwimmenden Röhre wurde so realistisch in Szene gesetzt, daß der Zuschauer förmlich die Enge des Bootes und die Angst der Besatzung spürt...
