| Video Discription | Good question, and there is no definitive answer.... the good news is that as long as you don't wait too long and allow your precious buds to mold out (don't do that!), your weed will be loaded with medicine... In this video, I attempt to share my thought process on when to harvest, but keep in mind our farm grows over 50 landrace varieties that are vastly different, so they all require some level of intuition and 'feel' to 'sense' when the buds are at their peak and ready to be harvested. A few general principles: Wait till most of the hairs are brown Wait till the trichomes begin to get cloudy or milky, with a few turning amber color Wait till the buds feel plump and somewhat dense, but also knowing some varieties will never get rock hard Check for mold spots.... if you see one mold spot on the plant, good chance you will find 10 more mold spots tomorrow... Check the bracts inside the buds, the little empty seed sacks at the base of the central bud stem in the interior of the bud - if the internal bracts are turning yellow or brown, it's time to harvest, cause when those bracts die inside your bud, they will mold. (I show these bracts in the video) Also be aware that clear trichomes will still get you high, and sometimes they will provide a brighter and more clear effect, and for bright fruit or floral terpene varieties, clear or slightly milky trichomes may actually provide tastier flavor and more uplifting effects. Milky white trichomes are generally peak THC, and are a great time to harvest. Amber trichomes will generally provide more of a sedative effect, and this is when the deep earthy and musky funk flavors will be enhanced... so for gassy funky sedative varieties, you may want to hold out for more amber trichomes... or if you don't want your heavier varieties to be overly couch locked, you may want to consider harvesting while the trichomes are milky... These are generalizations, and my OPINION. The nuanced reality is that every variety is different, so to fully understand the absolute optimum time to harvest for each variety, you really need to grow that variety a few times to know it! |
