A well-composed half-century from Laura Wolvaardt and some rapid cameos at the cue end of the innings has helped Gujarat Giants Women post a hefty 188 runs in 20 overs.
After opting to bat first, Gujarat Giants Women got off to a rollicking start as both openers Sophia Dunkley and Laura Wolvaardt started scoring at a brisk pace. However, the RCB Women fought back with determination, and their persistence paid off when Sophie Devine bowled a perfect delivery that uprooted Sophia Dunkley's leg stump, giving her team the crucial first breakthrough.
As Laura Wolvaardt held the fort, Sabbhineni Meghana joined her in the middle but found it hard to time the ball, struggling to get going. Undeterred, Laura continued with her attacking intent, putting the RCB Women's bowlers under pressure with her brilliant stroke play. Meghana, on the other hand, took some time to settle in but then upped her game, scoring runs at a brisk pace. However, her progress was stopped by Preeti Bose, and Meghana departed after scoring 31 runs. Laura Wolvaardt fell prey to Shreyanka Patil and departed after scoring a well-composed 68 runs.
Ashleigh Gardner was striking the ball cleanly and played a valuable knock of 41runs at the cue end of the innings, and in the end, a short cameo from Harleen Deol, and Dayalan Hemalatha has helped Gujarat Giants post 188 runs in 20 overs.
From the bowling front, Shreyanka Patil who was introduced late into the attack extracted a couple of wickets for RCB Women, while Sophie Devine and Preeti Bose contributed one wicket.
Smriti Mandhana (Royal Challengers Bangalore Women ): "That doesn't bother me as a captain. It's amazing if you lose the toss but win the game. We were looking to field first anyway. One change for us. Renuka misses out, unfortunately. Preeti comes in for her."
Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants Captain): "We are gonna bat first. The matches have been played earlier here so it will be slower in the next innings. There is 1 change, [Sabhhineni] Meghana comes in for Mansi [Joshi]. I am really happy with the way the girls performed the other day. I think everyone was brilliant on the field. The attitude should be always positive and I hope they will do the same tonight. 160-165 is the par score on this wicket."
Laura Wolvaardt: "exciting in a big way. Been a hectic couple of weeks, from the World Cup to not being picked and to being here and playing the other night. It's been fantastic, and I'm having a great time. No, I wouldn't say so. attempting to handle each game as it comes. But it has been wonderful spending the last few days with the crew. We can only truly concentrate on one thing, which is to play each game one at a time. unable to really control the outer world. The main priority is tonight and overcoming this obstacle."
Tanuja Kanwar (Gujarat Giants): "I want to do well whenever I have the chance to bowl. I concentrate on putting as much pressure on the batters and bowling as many dot balls as I can. Now that the ball is turning, the pitches are helping the spinners. I believe spinners can now take many more wickets. You may learn a lot about how to bowl under duress and obtain wickets from Sneh Rana and Ash Gardner because they are skilled bowlers. We'll exert pressure and bowl as many dots as we can against the RCB."
It will still come down to NRR but two defeats for UP Warriorz, who currently occupy the third spot, is what would make life easy for both these sides which is why both of them will have their eyes on the game prior to theirs, hoping Mumbai stretch their unbeaten run to six.
Pitch Report: After quite a few 200+ scores, runs have dried up at Brabourne stadium. A 160+ total can now be considered safe if you are batting first. Expect a close contest between the bat and ball, with building partnerships the key for every side.
