Titled Basanta, this play was performed in Calcutta’s New Empire theatre the following month. Prior to that, it was performed in Santiniketan on the occasion of Basanta Utsav. The next year, this song was published with several amendment. Roma Chakraborty, in her memoirs entitled Navin: Smriti, recounts that this song was written by Tagore specifically for his adopted granddaughter Nandini or Pupe. She wrote: “Little Pupe had danced to this song. We all knew that Gurudev had written this song with her in mind.
