Without a doubt, this is a move taken to divert the college board's efforts onto the SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. It's a primarily economic decision, but fortunately, it's also one step closer to reducing the number of hurdles college applicants face while applying. It's well known Standardized Testing perpetuates the systemic inequality in the college application process, and this should take away from it. However, as an international student from India, I do see this move increasing pressure on high school students and pushing kids to take APs - in a country where most schools don't even take the subject.
