Track 14, a bonus track from the 1996 reissue of their third album “Fifth Dimension” released in 1966 copyright Columbia Records. This was their first release without principle songwriter Gene Clark, who had left the band earlier that year. Jim McGuinn and David Crosby contributed more songs to fill the void and this album introduced “psychedelic rock” as a new musical genre. The band recorded “Eight Miles High” and “Why” at RCA Studios in Hollywood but Columbia refused to release those recordings because they weren’t produced at a Columbia Records studio. The songs were re-recorded along with the rest of the album at Columbia Studios in Hollywood. It received excellent reviews and reached No. 24 in the U.S. and No. 27 in the U.K. Written by David Crosby and produced by Allen Stanton. RIP Gene Clark, Michael Clarke & David Crosby. Featuring:
Jim McGuinn – Lead vocals, lead & rhythm guitars & background vocals
David Crosby – Lead vocals, rhythm guitars & background vocals
Chris Hillman – Bass & background vocals
Michael Clarke – Drums
Special Guests:
Gene Clark – Vocals on “Eight Miles High” (both versions) & “Why” (both versions), tambourine on “Eight Miles High” (alternate RCA version) & harmonica on “Captain Soul”
Van Dyke Parks – Organ on “5D (Fifth Dimension)
Allen Stanton – String arrangements on “Wild Mountain Thyme” & “John Riley”
At a dance, I'm standin' there
Suddenly approached by a lady fair
Said to me "This ain't no lie
If I can't have you I'll surely die"
Psychodrama City, don't need none today
My good friend said to me
The world will end soon, wait you'll see
Said, "I don't care, I won't be here
Going to Florida for a half a year
Psychodrama City, don't need none today
Me and my friends got on a plane
One of my friends got off again
To this day I don't know why
He got on at all, if he really didn't wanna fly
Psychodrama City, don't need none today
Me and my friend went over to my friend's house to see
Me and my friend on his TV
'Fore the night was over I saw six murders, two riots and a war
Not gonna watch my friend's TV no more, no
Psychodrama City, don't need none today |
