Seals runs Vocal Type Co. -- the last Black-owned font foundry in the U.S. He specializes in making typefaces inspired by minority cultures -- and particularly by social justice movements. Meticulous historical research goes into each of his fonts, which are given names like “Martin” and “Marsha” to honor icons like Martin Luther King Jr. and gay liberation activist Marsha P. Johnson.
