| Video Discription | Sweet Pongal is a delicious south Indian dish with rice, moong dal, ghee, jaggery or sugar, cardamoms, and nuts. It’s a traditional dish made on special occasions. It's easy to make in the instant pot it will be ready in 30 minutes. I have been making my sweet pongal in the instant pot for 3 years now. Feel free to half the recipe. To make Homemade ghee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKHLpdaP7-g&t=52s Millet Sweet Pongal: https://youtu.be/iSCPwykffrQ Prep Time: 5 minutes Total Cook Time: 30 minutes Active Cook Time: 10 minutes Servings: 6 to 8 Instant pot model: 3Qt DUO (USA: https://amzn.to/2XmM6Mx) (India: https://amzn.to/3hWK1Ar) Nutrition Calories: 388kcal | Carbohydrates: 63g | Protein: 8g | Fat: 10g |Saturated Fat: 5g|Cholesterol: 19 mg|Sodium: 12mg | Pottasium: 328 mg| Fiber: 8g |Sugar: 26g | Vit c: 1.1 mg |Calcium: 33mg |Iron: 2.7mg Ingredients · Sona masoori / Ponni raw rice- 1 Cup · Pachai Paruppu / yellow lentils / moong dal- 1/2 cup · Vellam / Jaggery- 400gms/15oz · Water for cooking rice & dal- 4 Cups · Milk- 1Cup · Water for melting Jaggery- 1/2 cup · Ghee- 5Tbsp · Salt- 1 Pinch · Cardamom powder- 1/4 tsp · Cashews- 10 · Almonds- 5 (chopped) (Optional) · Raisins- 10 · Coconut- 1 Tbsp (chopped) Instructions: · Select SAUTE mode on Instant Pot. Once it is hot. · Add a tbsp of ghee and sauté the nuts and raisins. If you want to add coconut pieces it's optional. I like the flavor when I eat. Once it turns golden brown. Take it out and keep it aside for later use. · Then in the same pot roast the moong dal for few minutes till it leases aromatic flavor. Don’t brown it. Then add washed rice and give a quick mix. · Add 4 cups of water and 1 cup of milk. · Add a pinch of salt. It will enhance the flavor. · Close the pot make sure that the vent is in sealing position. · Select manual/pressure cook and set the timer to 5 minutes. · Do Natural pressure release (NPR). · If you are using jaggery powder add it directly to the cooked rice and dal. If you are using the whole jaggery make small pieces and melt it in a stovetop by adding ½ cup water to it. You no need to boil it just has to melt completely. · Then strain the melted jaggery. · After the pressure released completely open the lid carefully. · Mash the rice and dal completely. If you follow the same proportion the rice and dal will be in the correct proportion. · Then add the strained jaggery water. Give it a good mix. · Add ghee and cardamom powder.
