| Video Discription | In this zany and quirky comedy set in New York of the early 1970s, neighbors Ernest Borgnine (who plays a hairdresser, completely out of character for him and wonderful) and Carroll O'Connor play two old white guys facing the increasing violence of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. After complaining to the NYPD, the police suggest that residents from various neighborhoods join the Police Auxiliary and patrol their own neighborhoods themselves. The two organize a large group of volunteers from their neighborhood. They are issued with uniforms and batons but no firearms. Later, they get a used police car and paint the auxiliary police insignia on it. Then they get guns on their own. Being mistaken for real police officers has its perils, and the story thus unfolds.
